The Kelmarsh Show which was promised to replace the Billing venue has now been
cancelled by organisers LRE magazine due to lack of support from traders.
In a shock announcement on LRE's website yesterday Richard Green said...
"The Show at Kelmarsh is cancelled. It would appear that the majority of trade stands who have booked for a July show have chosen to go to Billing and we can't run a show with only a 1/3 of stands that we normally get."
Further details will follow in due course...

In some ways this is good for the club as now we will all be together and its closer , I hope it lives up to its reputation as the biggest Land Rover show in the calendar

I remain un-convinced the biggest landrover show can be put on in a shrinking venue. The space available to the show deminishes every year with the introduction of more and more static caravans, and anybody that hasn't seen the decline in standards of the site (not the show, but the bit the organisers have no control over) must be blind.
It's a shame LRO have cancelled, it would have been great to see what they could do with a new venue. From a club point of view, it saves a decision, but from a purely personal point of view, I think as a club we get much less out of the Billing show, than we do out of a club weekend at billing. The off roading is very expensive, and has no flexibility, the good bargains that could normally be sought at a show are becoming increasingly thin on the ground, there is very little club involvment at Billing due to the pressures of space and for exactly the same reasons auto jumble is nowhere to be seen. It's great we still have something on the callendar, and we also have the option of keeping the cost down by camping in one of Richards fields, but a pity the other aspects will be lacking. |
