And yes, the camcorder was still running inside the vehicle, so for a first-hand experience, DVD's are available!

Neither of us seem able to access the old Surrey GL Report, so new report posted here:
As per the photo, an eventful day was had by all. We started the day at Aylesbury B&Q at 7:30am with 6 vehicles - Mick and Richard in Mick's 90, Matt and Connor in Matt's Disco, Paul in his 90, Rachel and Nixey in the Classic Rangie, Mark and I in the 90, and Phil in his Disco. Unfortunately Phil's clutch died at J20 of the M25 so he headed home, and we headed for Surrey, convoy down to 5 vehicles. We started the day driving Sandy Lane near Frensham Pond, recently featured in LRO. It was, as the name suggests, sandy, but still snow-covered. Morning tea was taken in a lovely clearing before we headed towards Hindhead and the more challenging lanes. The first lane around Hindhead was slightly scarier with a layer of ice on the descents, but the deep ruts didn't seem to take as long as last time, although waffle boards and tow ropes were still called into play. Devil's Punchbowl itself was next, a nice easy, scenic drive, and lunch was had at the bottom of the valley. From there we headed back up the A3, drove a short byway from Newlands Corner down to Albury, and then headed for the angled lane near Farley Green. It was here that things went a little bit wrong, as per the photo. Video evidence suggests that we slipped off the tree roots to our left in a particularly narrow section, hit the overhanging tree on the right with the new roofrack, overcorrected, wheel bit the bank on the left, and a gentle rollover to the right followed. It was all quite calm and controlled, even in the cab. Everyone was great, and concerned about our welfare. Mick was up ahead and only heard part of the distress call, and proceeded to try to tow Rachel's empty Rangie, while Rachel was back helping us! Eventually Mick and Richard got the real distress call and came back to where the real action was happening. The guys got me out the passenger door and down onto the bank, and then it was all hands on deck to right the vehicle, Mark started the engine, right hand down on the wheel, and with us all providing much-needed weight and traction, he drove back down into the gulley. It was then that the adrenalin kicked in! Miraculously, no damage was done to vehicle or occupants, but a few lessons were reinforced - always wear your seat-belt, and never lane on your own! After that excitement, the laning continued, with many more side slopes and axle-twisters and wheels in air, but no more events. The woodland lane in Shere followed, some deep water holes but nothing too dramatic, and the final lane of the day was a lane near Wotton (I think) which we didn't manage to do last time. By this stage, the fog had descended, everyone was muddy and exhausted, and, common theme here, the pub was calling.......... Thanks again to Mick for arranging the day's outing, and thanks to all for the recovery. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:Oops! Now we know how far a 90 will go!

That was down to the skill and counterballancing applied by the crew, resulting in a feather like decent......OR could it be pure old fashioned luck (more likely) I must admit that in the cold light of the here and now, I am investigating fitting a full CCV external cage. Just incase I get carried away in the future, you understand.... The in cab video is cool, you did look worried at first. Have you seen Paul and his video yet? Hopefully I will get the Trip DVDs edited for club night. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:Oops! Now we know how far a 90 will go!

I've seen it, a very graceful tilt including 30mins of pre event and post event footage. Needs to go on Youtube methinks. Or even that program on tv when things go wrong(You've been framed or some variant) and pick up £250 to boot.

I've not seen any footage yet but hope I will soon, not sure if I can make the club night we have a show on at work but I'll try to get out of it. Full roll cage? Could do, or just don't get carried away! When did the card run out, did you get footage of getting back on your wheels?

Should make club night so looking forward to the footage. Maybe it should be screened as public footage, along the lines of photo night!
Or "here's how not to do it!" Matt |
